Kahki is a 29 year old female Galah aka Rose-breasted cockatoo. She came to us when her former owners' children went off to college and they wanted to start traveling. They said they no longer had time for her anymore. Kahki had never had a bath or shower in the first 13 years of her life. She now loves taking spray bottle showers here at the sanctuary.
Kahki has been diagnosed with scoliosis (curvature of the spine) that the vet said may lead to her going lame some day. Although she does have some difficulty, due to the scoliosis and arthritis in one hip and in both "knees" and "ankles," Kahki still manages to walk, climb and fly. We give her non-steroidal anti-inflammatories as needed, along with natural remedies to control pain, and try to keep her as active as possible.
Kahki is a sweet little girl who loves to make kissing noises. She also gets "the sillies" from time to time and squeals in delight while rolling over onto her back! Kahki's favorite treats are walnuts and pine nuts.
